Tempting confidence

Hi

An author of a book writes about meditation. She says: With the exception of a single, trusted working partner, don't give anyone else a chance to stop you before you get started, no matter how tempting such a confidence might be.

I have a problem with that last part. What does it refer to? Does "confidence" mean "trust" here? No matter how much we trust somebody?

No, 'confidence' here (notice that it is a countable noun) means 'advice/remark/comment from a close friend'.
