The continued wildfires are sending the temperatures in California to new highs.

Is the above correct?

I would suggest either saying "temperatures" or "the temperature" but not "the temperatures."

Thanks, GG. I was exaggerating. If you use the singular "the temperature", would you still say the plural "highs"?

Good question. I guess it depends on whether you mean each day. The temperature today was 103, the temperature yesterday was 102, etc.

To me, using "temperatures" sounds like the temperature in different locations, but you can use "highs" to mean on muliple days.

Others may read it differently!
