Vocabulary

temperature difference

We see such sentences like these in Japanese:
1. Some temperature differences are seen
among local governments in their eagerness
about how they deal with the global warming
problem.
2. There seem to be some temperature differences
depending on people in their interpretation of
the term 'temperature difference'.
I think it means 'difference in feeling' or something
like that.
Is it possible in English or are there any other
expressions?
Thank you.

Hi Anonymous, The word 'temperature' doesn't fit the bill in your above examples. I think you mean 'temperamental' which means inconsistent, changeable, variable, unpredictable etc... I can give you examples of words that sound the same but have different meanings: Temperature - related to climate and metereology.

Hi Avatars,

Temperature cannot be used in your sentence with government. You can use that word only to climate - related situations, not in politics or between people.

However this sentence is ok:

some differences are seen among local govt. in their eagerness about how to deal with the global warming problem
