Telling time with the word "something"

Is saying time "6 something" or "12 something" for a little bit after 6 o'clock and after 12 o'clock respectively correct and acceptable?

Top answer

g. "a hundred and something"). I'm not sure that "something" always implies a little bit after, though.

It's possible that these expressions might be used informally to talk about a time whose minutes component is not known (similarly to how "something" may be used to substitute for an unknown amount in e.g. "a hundred and something"). I'm not sure that "something" always implies a little bit after, though.
