Tell me what you want.

Tell me what you want.

Here does what function as a relative pronoun, meaning the thing that or Tell me + what do you want = Tell me what you want as an indirect question?

Or both are okay and is there not much difference in meaning?

I hope to make my question clear and hear from you again.

Thank you so much.
