This is my last straw and I cant fail this one any help would be much appreciated thanks, My tutor is Alexander Galen if anyone is interested in knowing.
The question and answers is:
Task 2Read this article and answer the following questions.
Two college students were standing on a street smoking cigarettes in Salt Lake City, USA when they were confronted by a gang of 20 teenagers carrying chains, bricks and a giant can of pepper gas. This is nothing strange in itself, but this gang, known as Straight Edgers, are a bit different.
Straight Edge members do not drink, smoke, take drugs, or have casual sex and are often vegetarian. Gang members often shave their heads and pierce their bodies with metal studs and rings. Their symbol, which is often seen on tattoos, is a black X in between smaller letters S and E.
Neil J, a Straight Edger from Washington D.C., explains this youth movement in more detail: "In a nutshell, Straight Edge is a youth movement associated with the hard-core and punk music scene, but with a big difference. It refers to a person who excludes all forms of drugs from their lives, including alcohol and cigarettes. Many don't even drink coffee because of the caffeine and won't take aspirin for a headache, as these are all things which pollute your body. Many Straight Edgers are vegetarian as a cruelty free lifestyle is good for them, the environment, and animals."
Another part of being a member is putting something back into the Straight Edger community. This could be by being in a band, writing an underground magazine, helping out in a collective or just doing something for someone apart from yourself to make the world a better place. Basically the whole movement centres around the issue of self control and getting rid of the negative impacts which influence your life.

1. What level of learner do you think this passage would be suitable for?
I think that this passage would be suitable for intermediate learners because they would be Able to be Aware of all main tenses and grammar structures. The passage would be interesting for Young teenagers to adults because it would appeal to most people.
2. How could you arouse the students' interest in the text? Remember that this is a pre-reading activity.
I would Discuss what happens in the passage by explaining why it is significant also Offer a context for the passage without offering too much summary. This would spark interest to the students and keep them thinking about the subject.
3. What vocabulary would you pre-teach and why? Please list the words here and explain your choices.
Strange: I would explain that strange is something different than usual. It would be unusual, extraordinary, or curious. The Straight Edgers actions are strange and different compared to most gangs, They use violence for a good cause.
Member: I would Explain that a member is someone who joins a certain group and performs certain actions together. It could be a person, animal, plant, group, etc., that is part of a society, party, community, taxon, or other body. The straight Edgers perform actions together and work as a group so they can achieve what they think is right.
Symbol: something used for or regarded as representing something else; a material object representing something, often something immaterial; emblem, token, or sign. Straight Edgers would need a symbol for others to recognise them as a gang.
4. What global/gist (general) questions would you ask?
Global/gist questions I would ask the students would be. Are the Straight Edgers a peaceful gang? Do they use weapons to hurt others? Why? Are the Straight Edgers helping the environment? Why? What type of scene are the Straight Edgers into?
5. What detailed/comprehension questions would you ask?
Detailed/comprehension questions I would ask the students would be. What is the purpose of the passage? Where does this take place? What is the setting? Which of the following does the passage mainly discuss?
6. What follow-up activities could you use? Please mention at least 3.
I would assign homework to the students so they can finish of some general questions which would be attached to the assignment. I would get the students to Continue the story by giving them general questions to help them finish of an ending. I would Draw a picture or diagram to illustrate what the students have discovered from the passage.
Task 3Write down how you would deliver a
Reading Skills Lesson using the preceding text on Straight Edgers. Look at your answers to the questions in task 2 and follow the plan in 'The stages in a listening and reading lesson' on page 3. Include the questions you would ask and brief reasons for your choice of activities and questions at each stage. Be sure to number the stages of your lesson plan.
(Write 200+ words.)
I would start of by introducing the story to the students using a full scale showing of the passage by using a overhead projector. This way the students can see the whole story together and get shown certain points of important text by the teacher. This would be easy to give out certain types of questions to the students. When the overhead projector is being viewed a tape recorder can be used at the same time to keep the students interested. This would keep the students listening and find it much easier for them to follow the passage on the overhead projector. After the students have understood the passage I would then explain certain vocabulary about the gang and certain actions which where followed in the passage. This would teach them more about the story and easier to understand the general questions which are going to be giving after the vocabulary. Soon after I would give out general and detailed questions to the students which they can work out in groups or pairs. Once the questions have been given to the students to answer I would then write their answers on the board for all the other students to follow. This would give them time to think for more answers to the following questions. Once that is complete I would start a practical assignment to the students for Role playing with the story and maybe get them in pairs/groups to perform it in the class. This end task would keep the students interested and thinking what they could do for homework to maybe finishing of the story in their own ideas.
In task 3 most of it doesn't even relate to task 2 but I wrote down what I came up with the first time I submitted my work. Just thought it would help out of getting a clear idea of what I am writing. Thanks.
