Teem with, heavy/thick

Do you use 'teem with' in everyday conversation?

The place was teeming with tourists. (I'd probably use 'swarming with' instead.)

The traffic was getting heavy/thick. Can both be used?

The road has been patched up in a lot of different parts. Can I say this when I drive on a road that has a lot of fixed potholes and cracks?

Thank you! I hope it won't take up too much of your time to help me with these questions. I always appreciate your advice.
