Technology and Technologies

According to Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, the word "technology" is countable and uncountable.

Are the following sentences (1 and 2) okay? Can I understand that the speaker thinks computer technology is a single type of technology in sentence 1 while the speaker thinks there are various types of computer technologies in sentence 2?

1. Computer technology has changed the world.
2. Computer technologies have changed the world.

That's how I see it, too. However, I'm a good enough computer expert to say whether the use of the plural technologies is really justified in this context - in other words, whether there really are many computer technologies or not. CB
