Technically, should there be a hyphen between "widely" and "respected"?

He is a widely-respected priest.

Technically, should there be a hyphen between "widely" and "respected"? Or has modern English changed to the extent that it is optional?.

You don't use a hyphen with adverbs ending in '-ly'.
