Technical writing

If I say "A loose bolt in the connection plate", is this descriptive enough and proper grammer? Would there ever be a case where I would need to say "One loose bolt in the connection plate" if I am only describing one bolt. Does the "A" at the beginning of the sentence describe this bolt as "one" already or does proper grammer suggest I need to put "one" at the beginning of the sentence?

Thanks
