Technical English: Paraprimer

Hi, there, folks!

I really need your help on this: "Paraprimer should be applied to clean surface prior to adhering Superstop especially on vertical joints."
I know what a primer means (If you don't, check here: *Primer (paint), a coating applied to a surface to prepare it for paint or another coating or adhesive). But, the prefix "para" adds a different meaning to the original one. What is that meaning?

Suggestions, please.

  • Very broadly speaking, the prefix 'para-' commonly indicates 'like, but not really as good as', eg paramilitary.

Hi Clive,

I agree with you on the "adhering" issue. And "applying" seems to be a good choice. But "Paraprimer" is the prefix "para" and the word "primer". So, I'll appreciate more suggestions (esp. those from engineers or people with technical expertise)

ThanX anyway.

Hi,
OK.

But you might like to have a look here.

http://www.para.com/en/index.aspx

This is a company called 'Para Paints'. They make and sell paint. They don't make and sell stuff that is 'like paint'.

That has nothing to do with the prefix issue. If we were talking about "Para primer", I would agree. But, as I told you, I'd prefer a more technical reply. I you can't, don't even bother to answer this.

ThanX

Hi,
I hope you'll permit me a final observation that your last reply seems somewhat peremptory and rude, although I'm sure it's only because English is not your first language.

Good luck with replies from other people.
Clive
