Tease out, give air to

Hi,

1) A friend of mine who is a native English speaker told me this yesterday:

"I had to tease it out of her if she was planning on getting back together with her ex-boyfriend."

Shouldn't it be 'tease out of her if' without 'it'?

2) "If you keep giving air to your doubts, you'll never be happy."

Is there a synonym for 'give air to' you can think of? What about 'entertain doubts'?

Thank you.

It seems to me that we use the "it" much more often than not. It's the same sort of dummy 'it' as in "find
