Teaching parents basic engligh

I am trying to develop plans for Jr. High or High School children to teach their parents very basic spoken English so they can at least communicate at home and be able to ask for help at social services agencies or outreaches. I work at a parish outreach. Our parish has many spanish families who come to a Spanish Mass each week. I would like to form groups of student/parents, which would meet once a week for review and support, and to get a few phrases to learn each week for about 10-12 weeks. Thereafter, I would hope the parents might be willing to continue by going to our local library for more advanced learning classes and resources.

Do you know of any group which has tried this approach or do you have any suggestions on materials to use or how to proceed?

Many thanks.
