Teaching English As a Second Language

Hi. One of my students would like to start learning English. He is a secondary school learner. He told me that he would like to go into communication with somebody, and be understood. I would like to help him, but I don't know from where to start. Are there any methods I should follow ? It should be taken into consideration that he has no prior knowledge of English apart from the alphabet. Thank you in advance for your response.
