Hello,Could any native speaker help me to understand the [for] with the following sentences?1. In [teaching children to think for themselves] , is the [for] as regards ?2. In [to act for yourselves, not to be acted upon] , is the [for] the same as the above?Thank you for your assistance.

If you teach children to think for themselves, you teach them to question statements that others make, and not accept something as true just because someone says so.

Hi,Your words like a brain storming that help me to have got it.There the [think] means this activity is made in oneself in whcih the thinking is formed or developed.
