Hi everyone.
Just a quick question. I'm quite new to English teaching and will soon be beginning to tutor 2 children (8-10 years old). My lessons are usually 1hr long but I'm considering giving shorter lessons for under 12s (say 45 mins). What do you think?
I'm aware that children have a shorter attention span than adults and will be programming a variety of activities of different pace and dynamic for the lessons, but I'm not sure if the best way to work may also be in shorter, more frequent bouts than with an adult.

Hi Emmeladelyn, I would do the same thing but as you know all these things depend on the classroom dynamics. Your children will show you what to do as time passes. Don't worry much.

Hi Emmeladelyn,
I would do the same thing but as you know all these things depend on the classroom dynamics. Your children will show you what to do as time passes. Don't worry much.

Thanks for the advice. I think that breaking the session up might be a good tactic. I'm also considering doing a sort of "downtime" exercise (colouring in, drawing or other calm, creative activities) in those ten minutes. Any thoughts?

Any colouring book would offer you the opportunity of casually introducing the nouns and verbs in its pictures.
