Teaching abroad in South Korea--have never taught anything before

Hey there!

I'm thinking about teaching English abroad in South Korea but have never taught anything before. How should I prepare to teach immediately after I arrive? How will I know what to do?

Perhaps the stunned silence that has greeted your post is from the teachers who have dedicated their lives to this profession and can't imagine how to answer such a post. (You must realize that on some level, it's a bit like saying "Hi, I'm thinking about opening a garage, but I've never held a wrench in my hand before. ") I would suggest you contact the organization you are thinking about doing this through for contact information of people who also started their Korean teaching job with zero experience and find out what they did, and how it worked for them.

  • You can hear whether they even thought it was a good experience for them -- whether they learned a lot and managed to find a groove fairly quickly -- or whether they felt horribly ill-prepared and found the entire thing a disaster.
