Right. The writer tried to use this definition of "face": "6. Outward appearance: the modern face of the city."
AHD ( https://www.ahdictionary.com/word/search.html?q=face ). But he fell into meaningless cliche, loving the sound of his own voice too much. SPACs are not changing the "face" of baseball, they are changing it, period. "Changing the face of" is a common collocation, and people tend to throw such cliches in without thinking.

"on the cusp of" You can't be on the cusp of buying anything. You have to be on the cusp of a real noun. The writer probably had "on the verge of" and decided that that was too ordinary. This is just a mistake, again born of glibness.
