Teacher's advice

Recently my flute teacher was talking about how to make a right choice for marriage.
The teacher told about how to deal with different situations.
He also said what the characteristics of a guy are which is the indication to avoid from that person.
We were talking in Russian.
The teacher mentioned some negative traits about being ''???? ? ??????''
Maybe those words in English might be ''stingy and pedant'', I am not sure
