TEachers!!!

0one of my teachers at colege said that the sentence that the clause "she might have been any pretty girl," from the sentence "looking up smiling, she might have been any pretty girl and to please her i drank," gives extra information. Surely however the clause is as much an explanation of the narrators wish to drink.0-
