Teacher changing the topic

Hi,

Do you have a specific verb to describe a situation where a teacher starts explaining one topic, doesn’t finish it and then jumps to a different topic?

I could think of these off the top of my head:

“She just started clueing us in on the basics of statistics, but then she rapidly

—> switched to something much more advanced.

—> steered the lesson to something much more advanced.

—> did a 180 degree turn and moved on to something far more advanced. (Would this one work as well?

I know that there are plenty of other alternatives, but I don’t want to write them all out. I was just wondering if there’s something that stands out in your mind that would also work.

I wouldn't say that your example, where someone jumps from a basic explanation to an advanced explanation, really constitutes jumping to a "different topic". I would say it is the same topic, only at a
