Teach about

Hi.
What's the difference between 'teeching sb about sth' and 'teaching sth to sb' and 'teaching sb sth'?

Thanks in advance

You more often teach somebody verbs (or teach them how to verb), but you teach them about nouns. I taught him how to read. I taught him about the concept of ontogeny recapitulating phylogeny.

Any difference other than syntactical difference?

Sure: If you teach someone to read, you teach them the mechanical process of reading. If you teach someone about reading you might give them a historical overview of reading and how it's affected the development of human society.
