Hi.
Is 'taste' used correctly in:

The spirit of the time had surely undergone transition, the taste of the day had changed and so the artistic expression had taken on direction”

Hi Yes, the word is fine. 'Taste of the day' can be used very generally to mean 'what people liked at that time' In the last phrase, I think you need '... taken on new direction' Dave

Yes, the word is fine. 'Taste of the day' can be used very generally to mean 'what people liked at that time'

In the last phrase, I think you need '... taken on new direction'

As a sentence, I think it is OK grammatically. Personally - and this is just my view - I would lose some of the words. Perhaps:

- In the Qajar time, the artistic spirit and the prevailing taste in paintings changed
