Taste

Hi.

Could you please tell me if we can use the word taste meaning experienced.

The context is as follows.

"This was my first experience that I tasted the joy of putting what I have learnt into practice."

Does the following sentense sound natural. it it common to use such a thing in everyday English.

Thanks
