Task/exercise

Hi
I came across someone telling me that the word 'exercise' in the textbook got changed to 'task' which meant according to the person sounded more appropriate. ( Here the reference is to work prescribed for children to enhance their language skills.)
Please give me your views on this.

However, the Oxford dictionary's primary definition for exercise is "activity requiring physical effort, carried out esp. to sustain or improve health and fitness," and that for task is "a piece of work to be done or undertaken."
So, perhaps someone is worried that children might get confused. I don't think it makes any differenc
