Prompt: Prison is the most common way in most countries to solve the problem of crimes. However, a more effective solution is to provide people with a better education. Do you agree or disagree?

Some people believe that education plays a more pivotal and effective role in reducing the crime rate than the sentence of imprisonment does. From my point of view, both approaches have their own distinctive merits, in an attempt to tackle with the crimes and maintain social security.

On the one hand, prison is of necessity, in terms of punishments for offenders and the social safety. The first reason for this is that all forms of illegality and unlawful actions will have to come in for consequences. Murderers, for example, will be condemned to jail. This would deprive them of the chance to meet their family and friends. In addition, when released, they are likely to prone to social isolation and being shunned. As a result, prison, acting as a punishment, can dispel any ideas of committing crimes. Another reason is that separating the group of offenders from the residence of citizens may meet with social endorsement as they will feel safer and more relieved.

On the other hand, education can help solve the problems of crimes from the roots since it has a profound impact on people's awareness and intellect. Firstly, people who are ignorant of laws are more liable to commit crimes. For instance, a recent study by HANU university found that 78% of juvenile delinquents had experienced a childhood devoid of parental supervision and thorough institution. Furthermore, in prison, educational programs will enable criminals to rehabilitate and blend in more easily when they come back to normal life. Therefore, they may potentially not want to fall foul of laws again.

In conclusion, prison and education alike co-exist with a view to developing a civilized and safe society. While prison acts as a deterrent against crime, education helps heighten people's intellect and give them a deeper insight into laws and wrongdoings.
