"task" or "pastime"?

Hello,

1/ I wonder if it is "a task" or " a pastime" in the verse in the song What Is A Youth from the movie Romeo and Juliet (1968). Some said that it's "a task", and others, "a pastime". That confuses me a lot. Please help!

2/ Could you explain what it means "Caper the cape" in the verse, please! I looked in my dictionary, but I couldn't find it.

Caper the cape (???), but sing me the song
Death will come soon to hush us along
Sweeter than honey and bitter as gall
Love is a task/ a pastime (???) and it never will pall
Sweeter than honey and bitter as gall
Cupid, he rules us all.

THANK YOU very much for your help!

and HAPPY NEW YEAR 2018!
