I'm new in this forum and this is my first question:
I have to fill in the following gaps or form the right TENSE with the verbs given in the brackets...
Can someone tell me what belongs into them so I can check if I made mistakes!
Thanks in advance
Here are the questions:
T...... Tom , A.... Ann,
T: ........I speak to Ann, please?
A: Ann (speak).
T: Tom here. Where you (be) Ann? I (try) to reach you for the last half hour. You (not leave) your office at 5.00?
A: Yes, I ..., but today I (go) to the dentist and only just (get) in. It (be) lovely to hear your voice, Tom. I (not know) you (be) in London.
T: I only (arrive) this morning. I (ring) you before but I (be) terribly bury all day covering a conference. It only just (end). You (do) anything tonight, Ann?
A: Yes, I (go) to the theatre.
T: That (be) a pity. I (be) here for one night.
A: I (be) sorry, Tom. If you (tell) me you were coming up, I (keep) the evening free. But you didn't tell me.
T: I (not know) myself till this morning when the boss suddenly (dash) into the office and (tell) me to rush up here to cover the conference.
A: I thought Peter usually (do) the conferences.
T: Yes, he (do) but when he (drive) up here last night he (have) an accident and (take) to hospital. So I (do) it instead. Ann, you really (go) out tonight...(neg. interr) you get out of it?
A: No, I....(neg.). I'm free tomorrow but I (suppose) that (be) too late.
T (suddenly changing his plans): No, I (stay) another day, I daresay the boss (get) over it. You (like) to meet me for dinner tomorrow?
A: That (be) wonderful! But Tom, you (be) sure it (be) all right?
T: It (be) all right. I (ring) the boss and tell him I (stay) another night. I (stay) an extra night in York last month and he (not seem) too put out about it.
A: Why you (stay) an extra night in York?
T: I (tell) you tomorrow. Goodnight, Ann.
IN FIVE CASES (doen't matter which ones) PLEASE SAY WHY YOU HAVE USED THE TENSE IN QUESTION!!
Thanks a lot
LOVELY GREETINGS from Vienna ;-)))))
