Why do people risk their lives in this way, and do you think this is a good trend?

It is a trend that people nowadays undertake many challenging activities, such as hang-gliding and mountain climbing. There is a wide range of explanations for this trend, and whether it is a good trend or not is still debatable.

The first reason for this trend is people love the sense of achievement. People naturally want to challenge things that make them fear, which explains why many people still enjoy the coaster rollers in many entertainment parks. The same reason can be applied to people doing extreme activities. It gives them a sense of pride and satisfaction when completing a difficult task which not everybody can do it. Another reason for people indulging themselves in these dangerous sports is that they want to prove their values. Those who undertake these kinds of activities are usually admired by others. “Cool”, “brave”, or “strong” is among the great words frequently used to describe these people.

Despite many one-sided opinions, I hold the perception that this trend can be both a good and a bad one. On the one hand, the stories of these people can be very inspirational, especially to the young generations. Many virtuous, meaningful messages can be passed among the society. For example, one can learn the lesson of going forward, overcoming any difficulties in life while keeping optimistic thinking. However, on the other hand, these inspirational stories can be taken in a very wrong way. For instance, one can see the people beginning to follow extreme activities as their sole model, and try to fit themselves in that model, ignoring the abilities of themselves, although they, in the first place, are not cut out for that path.

In conclusion, people risk their lives in dangerous sports for several reasons. Despite the good effect of this trend, it still can have negative impacts on societies in some way.
