Task 2_Build road or subway

Please help me evaluate my writing. Thanks a lot for your help!

Some people believe the government should spend money on building train and subway lines to reduce traffic congestion. Others think that building more and wider roads is the better way to reduce traffic congestion. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

In dealing with traffic jam, many people have various views about investing financial budgets in some modern means of public transport such as trains or subways as opposed to upgrading existing roads or building new ones. While the expansion of roads brings some benefits, I lean towards the former view.

On the one hand, widening or constructing new streets have some upsides. Firstly, people would have multiple choices of the way, thus the number of vehicles is allocated more adequately. Secondly, a broadened road allows the local authorities to separate lanes for various kinds of transport like private cars, motorbikes. Nevertheless, this solution might encourage the use of private vehicles – a fundamental factor contributing to air pollution. Moreover, this method can be just right for a contemporary population and a number of vehicles, thus just solve the existing issues.

On the other hand, new train or underground system can be more effective and long-term choices. It takes advantage of available space such as in the air, underground to set up distinct lines. Not only would this system save land area but also limit the amount of carbon given out into the atmosphere. What is more, to meet the need of growing population, the government can increase trips or build some new lines, which doesn’t require a huge amount of money. Furthermore, I would believe that skytrain or subway are absolutely state-of-the-art means, which can be considered as the icon of modernity and civilisation. I can take Thailand as an outstanding example, which reminds me of comfortable trips in these public transport.

In conclusion, although building and expanding roads are among of effective choices, I would argue that investing in train or subway is a more desirable and effectively long-term solution.
