Task 2 too many choices

Some people believe that nowadays we have too many choices. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement.

In today's world, thanks to advanced technology we have a much wider range of possibilities available than ever before. I completely agree that people are now faced with a challenging task of decision making with countless options which can either overwhelm them or cause them to make an inappropriate selection.

The popularity of online shopping is on the rise which provides people an opportunity to choose from an unlimited variety of options. From basic cookware to more sophisticated products such as an automatic washing machine, every item has numerous models and different specifications with varied prices. This not only confuses the potential buyer, but turns this rather simple task into a challenge. As a result, many people who are naive or do not have background information feel overwhelmed and make incorrect choices that they later regret.

Another point to consider is that all the major universities are now offering a vast variety of courses and programs. Many subspecialties and newer programs which are now offered further leads to a totally unique profession. Although academic institutes try to provide a short orientation to clear confusion and doubts, there are still students who change their mind later on and switch between the courses, wasting their precious time. An example of this are the speciality programs available in psychology. Even though they are related to the specific field, they all lead to different career paths.

In conclusion, I agree that now people are faced with a more variety of options to choose from. However, an in-depth knowledge is required to make informed decisions.
