I hope teachers can give me a band and correct my mistakes.
Thanks to countless technological breakthroughs, daily face-to-face communication is no longer as popular as it used to be on account of the increasingly prevalence of social media. From my point of view, the demerits of this tendency eclipse its merits.
On the one hand, among a myriad of benefits brought about by social networking, the most prominent are convenience and universality. First and foremost, we can garner the lastest information within few seconds by clicking buttons, texting, calling via videos, watching television, which is more straightforward and comfortable than meeting directly. In fact, user-friendly interfaces of social media enable human not only to interact with others in all circumstances but also to save time. For example, entrepreneurs prefer making conference calls with their partners to holding a direct meeting requiring intricate procedures. Second, social media are nothing but a versatile tool to connect people in every corner of the world. Particularly, unlike direct contact among abroad friends and relatives which entails travelling a long distance, communicating by social media has been far from challenging. In other words, the advancement of social media is a motive for globalization.
On the other hand, social media cannot act as a good substitute for face-to-face communication due to their innumerable drawbacks. The most glaring problem is that social network abusers are prone to both physical and mental illnesses. Apparently, direct contacts with others are indispensible activities of human being, hence, isolating themselves from reality to be immersed in virtual world engenders social phobia and autism. Besides, multimedia platforms are where users frequently run the risk of leaking information. The world has witnessed numerous incursions of online criminals into social apps such as Zoom and Facebook. This sparks a doubt whether as to social media are a hotbed for human trafficking.
In conclusion, I affirm that the downsides of prevailing usage of social media overshadow its upsides.
