Task 2: Some people think spoken communication is more powerful than written communication. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some people argue that verbal communication is more influential in comparison to the written one, however, others disagree with this position. In my perspective, deciding which one is stronger principally depends on certain situations.

There are several circumstances in real-life requiring face-to-face interaction and emotional understanding in order to build social bonds. Firstly, dating is one of the most specific examples. It is hard to imagine how pedestrian a rendezvous will be when it happens without the smoothness of lips or intimacy from the person we have feelings for. As a result, body language and facial expressions are the key of bonding sessions so they can not be replaced by any text messages, emojis or even video calls. Secondly, talking directly with others helps us enhance a host of crucial skills, particularly interpersonal skills. We can easily understand the true feelings of the person in front of us through their gestures. This is the reason why many people have a capability of guessing another’s personality just from the first talk.

However, it is unquestionable that interaction in the written form still plays a completely unchangeable part regarding laws and business. Moral text documents are compulsory in laws. For instance, the court always demands valid written evidence in order to convict. In terms of business, when an entrepreneur has to deal with his partners, the contracts should be written to represent and visualize the idea profoundly. Moreover, in a cutting-edge society, an advertising email is more effective than word-of-mouth marketing. These practical applications prove the vital role of writing in business transactions and promotion.

All in all, it is possible to draw a conclusion that two methods of communication above should be decided based on specific cases and we need to be more flexible to choose which one is more suitable.
