Task 2 Please help

In some countries, a few people earn extremely high salaries. Some people think that this is good for a country, while others believe that the government should control salaries and limit the amount people can earn.
Discuss both views and give your opinion. (Reported 2017, Academic Test)

In some parts of the world, only a small number of people receive high wages. Although some believe that this is advantageous to a nation, others feel that the government should not impose salary cap on how much people should earn. Therefore, should the government cease controlling the salary of the people? My answer is a resounding yes and I will explain why.

For those who advocate state-controlled wages, they argue that this method ensures that the wealth of the nation will be distributed equally. If there is no big discrepancy between the salaries of doctors, teacher and labourers, for instance, they claim that there will be no inequality in the society. Some countries, particularly those who espouse the ideology of communism, follow such rule. For them, their system is the ideal way to give people the same opportunity.

Others, however, including myself, do not support this view. Indeed, countries like the former USSR had imposed limitations in the salary of the people in the past and the result was detrimental to the economy. Initially, business thrived since the government and private corporations alike were able to save a lot of money. However, after few years, the result was clear. Because only a small amount of money was circulating in the economy, stock market fell and the economy experienced recession. In stark contrast, USA has given freedom to businesses on how much their workers will receive as compensation. Today, the country has the biggest economy in the world and experts suggest that it was because of the freedom in relation to salary. Thus, advantages of salary cap is outweighed by its drawback in a long-term perspective.

To conclude, although limiting the salary has some short-term benefits, the effect of it on the economy in the long run is catastrophic. I believe that the government should not set limitation to anyone's wage.
