Some people think that developed countries have a higher responsibility to combat climate change than developing countries. Others believe that all countries should have the same responsibilities towards protecting the environment.

Climate change is becoming a significant concern around the world, and it has started to threaten humanity's very existence on this planet. Some people feel that all countries should work equally to prevent climate change. Others, however, myself included, think that developed countries should take a higher responsibility to reduce the impact of climate change.

First of all, evidence suggests that first world nations have contributed more to climate change than the third world. Based on a study published recently, the UK, USA and the rest of Europe have consumed a large portion of earth's natural resources and burnt a massive amount of fossil fuels since the days of industrialization. Furthermore, the carbon footprints of developing nations are unremarkable compared to the greenhouse gases produced by industries from rich countries. Thus, it is only fitting that rich countries lead the initiative to combat climate change.

Another important thing to consider is that developing nations have several problems aside from global warming, such as public health and education. These countries have limited financial resources and thus, are incapable of spearheading state-funded projects against climate change. Their money should instead be spent tackling more urgent matters such as improving literacy and sanitation or even funding their deteriorating public health systems and education. Also, given that the West has a surplus of resources and therefore, is capable of funding global environmental programs, governments of emerging countries no longer need to shell out money for this pursuit.

In conclusion, although every nation should get involved, it is time, however, for developed countries to take more responsibility for the problems created mainly by their own actions. I firmly believe that they are in a better position based on their financial resources than those governments of emerging nations.
