1. Question

Music has always been and will continue to be a universal language of mankind. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

2. Answer 1 (mine):

It is no doubt that music always plays a crucial role in modern life. A group of people finds that music is the strongest weapon to mostly deal with the current problem because it seems to be a universal language of human beings, and it will continue to be in the future. This statement ignites a great and ongoing debate, and it that true or not? From personal perspective, it is absolutely correct and has its valid ideology. To have an in-depth look on the matter, thus, various factors should be considered and analysed under scrutiny.

The benefits of music are clarified through a wide range of publications throughout the world. In terms of mental health, music has the magical power to heal human’s soul that they clearly realize it, especially in depression or tense situation. The melody, lyrics, or experiences attached to the song can help them to fully find themselves and overcome their obstacles. Furthermore, music can be considered as the perfect bond between soulmates. Many movies such as La La Land, The Greatest Showed Man, or High school musical were created to widely transfer this statement over the world, and inspire the musical love inside everybody. Music, nevertheless, mainly helps people to focus on their current academic study or work. With the support of music, people become better in knowledge observation, multi-task solve with high efficiency.

Dues to the direct and potential benefits brought by music, the continuous of being “an universal language of mankind” will maintain in the near and far future, like a family tradition. Being born in a family which loves music, the child mostly tends to love music as the way their parents do at the same time. Nevertheless, with the development of technology, various brand-new types of music are created to fully serve different music gout of auditories. If they want to immerse themselves in the exciting atmosphere, EDM or Non-stop music should be suitable. In other case, if they want to forget everything and live in blissful ignorance, Bolero or Andie music could be a perfect choice.

In conclusion, the demands of music in human daily life always appear. In most cases, music plays a different but important part. It can be a piece of memory, a source of power, a public inspirer, or a strict mentor who helps you to stay focus and work effectively. I believe that many persons have the same perspective as me because it is the suitable and optimal answer for this circumstance.

2. Answer 2 (my partner):

Music, since the early days of human civilzation, has always been a powerful tools of communication. But, to call it a universal language is something that will be worth looking into with scrutiny.

In order to understand why such idea exist, the definition of the term “language” must be made clear. To put it simple, language is everything that can be used to communicate. The most relatable and traditional way of understanding this definition would be the verbal speaking and writing that we use regularly in our daily life. On the other hand, with a more open-minded and artistic approach, it can safely be assume that music could also complete the task of communication, not to the extent which verbal language covers but it gets the job done in a more interesting and sometimes more beneficial way.

Music is not limited by the geographical barrier that has troubled verbal language since the very first day of human civilizations, since its origin came from the expression of emotions using the beats and sounds that are instinctively felt by our primal ancestors. For example, people in Asia can easily experience the smooth, funky feeling of Jazz or the solid, enthusiastic and noisy Rock’n Roll without actually have to learn English. Piano pieces of Bach or Bethoven are taught, performed and listened with all of its emotinal value intact throughout the world.

Yet, let not conclude that music is the superior channel of communication. Though it can be call an universal language, the word “universal” here should not be mistaken as its superiority, but rather as its popularity and widespreadness. Music can only speak the language of feelings and emotions and as far as we know, only that. There are endlessly more subjects, topics, ideas needed to be transmitted in our daily life and most of that are accomplished using verbal and non-verbal communication and even music would usually incoporate lyrics in order to be more meaningful and straightforward with its content.

All in all, I agree with the statement that music has always been a universal language for mankind, though with a careful viewpoint of what “universal language” means because after all, both music and words can be misinterpreted and misunderstood, which itself is arguably the source of most debatable subject.
