In the future all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless. The only people travelling inside these vehicles will be passengers.

Do you think the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages?

We are living in the era with the fast-paced evolution of information technology, it is possible that autonomous transport facilities will take over and only passengers remain in it. Despite the fact that there are some drawbacks of this kind of vehicle, I believe the numerous benefits will give people a better life.

On the one hand, there are several disadvantages that may put people off. Firstly, when driverless vehicles replace the conventional ones could lead to unemployment of dozens of drivers who have driving expertise. Secondly, It would be dangerous or even fatal if the autonomous system went wrong and we did not have a driver to handle that situation. For example, if an autonomous bus is suddenly out of power or has a system error, it could cause an accident involving the passengers and other vehicles or pedestrians on the street. Finally, because only passengers will be on self-driving facilities, we may not be able to control passengers' behavior or restrict bad actions from them.

On the other hand, I believe this type of transport will be significantly beneficial to us all. Over 90% of accidents are caused by human error such as driving while drivers are drunk or focusing on something else. By this superseding, it could greatly improve safety by using accurate algorithms to avoid the risk of calamities or to tackle if something bad happened. Moreover, this change could be greater independence for many people with disabilities because highly automated vehicles offer more personal freedom, and could help them live the life they want. On top of that, It could help reduce traffic congestion as sophisticated facilities can maintain a safe and consistent distance between vehicles. In terms of environmental gains, fewer traffic jams save fuel and reduce greenhouse gases.

In conclusion, although upgrading to automated transport facilities has some inevitable disadvantages, in my perspective, the good it brings could outweigh.
