Task 2 IELTS: Ageing populations, Problems and Solutions

In the developed world, average life expectancy is increasing. What problems will this cause for individuals and society? Suggest some measures that could be taken to reduce the impact of aging populations.

Please give me some feedback and a score. Thanks so much!

The rapid pace of societal development has improved many aspects of our life, including our health and expected lifespan. However, an aging society can be a difficult problem to deal with due to its impacts on individuals and society. Luckily, with suitable policy and technological interventions, we may minimize the consequences of this problem.

The first effect that aging populations may create is the dependence of the elder on government welfare. With the increase in life expectancy, the government will have to spend more on welfare and retirement salary thus lower the budget for further development. On top of that, higher life-expectancy also may lead to overpopulation. With an aging population and the birth rates remain unchanged, the world will be much more packed and there will soon be a resource crisis. In the near future, many experts predicted that China will be the first country to run out of natural gas due to overpopulation.

Despite the negative impacts of aging populations, there are several ways to deal with this problem. Firstly, the children of senior citizens will be regulated to take legal responsibility in taking care of their parent to reduce the financial burden for the government. This method is not only a meaningful way to show gratitude to the elders in many Asian countries but also an effective way to reduce the government financial stress. Furthermore, the act of encouraging the development of technology innovations can produce desirable effects. Technological development could greatly increase the effectiveness in exploiting resources while keep improving the quality of life for the elders.

In conclusion, aging populations is indeed a difficult problem with several detrimental impacts. However, policy and technological development are the keys to overcome this challenge in the future.
