Some argue that governments waste fund on the arts and the money should be allocated to other more important matters. Given the situation of the world today, I completely agree that governments should spend the funds initially for arts on critical issues troubling our lives today.

While it is true that art is an expression of our humanity, presently, we are faced with a serious problem that needs to be tackled first. Specifically, the world is under a global pandemic and this situation should be the main focus of the government. Spending money on the arts at this time is wasteful and, to some extent, inhumane, when many people are dying due to the Coronavirus infection. Instead, the money should be used wisely for research to develop more vaccines and to prevent the further transmission of the said disease.

Saving lives is more important than the arts. The arts can take the back-seat at the moment in order to help people. For example, an annual project funded by the US goverment to enrich the arts and culture of indigenous tribes in the tropics should be postponed owing to the fact that the funds could be used to purchase medical equiment to help our frontliners to better serve us in the crisis that we currently are in.

In conclusion, indeed, we, human beings, have expressed ourselves through the arts. However, in the current state of the world, art does not matter a lot and a more pressing issue is facing us today which governments should really pay attention to.
