In many countries, people like to eat a wider range of food than can be grown in their local place. Therefore, much of the food people eat today has to come from other regions. Do you think the advantages of this development outweigh disadvantages?
In today’s world, this is due to the fact that globalization is becoming more prevalent, buying imported food is no longer difficult. As a result, more people are opting for food that is grown in other areas rather than local products. In my opinion, the disadvantages of this phenomenon outweigh the advantages.
On the one hand, consuming imported food may have several benefits. The first reason is that more people want to enjoy new flavors. In addition, food come from one place is usually healthy. As most of the imported food are carefully checked before entering the market, the users do not have to worry about the quality. For example, the dragon fruit, which is one of the main sources of exportation in Vietnam, has to undergo numerous rigorous scrutiny before being displayed in supermarkets in other countries.
On the other hand, this phenomenon may pose some repercussions. First, imported food is exorbitant. To be delivered to customers, freights containing food have gone through many kinds of transportation fees or taxes. As a consequence, using them as a daily basis is generally out of reach for the majority of people with average incomes. Moreover, a large consumption of foreign food may make local brands hard to be sold. Should food from other regions are more preferred by customers, local food items are unlikely to be chosen, thereby affecting farmers’ sales.
In conclusion, while imported food are healthy and can fulfill the satisfy the appetite of many people, I believe the demerits are more significant due to the high price and the negative impacts on local food sales.
