The table compares the expenditure of consumers in five different countries, in percentage terms, on three specific categories in 2002: food, drinks, and tobacco; clothing and footwear; leisure and education. These five are Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey.
Overall, the category of food, drinks, and tobacco dominated the most proportions in all five countries, which was totally more than three times that of the other goods. The lowest spending could be seen in this table was the category of leisure and education, which was lower than 5% in each country. After only Turkey, Ireland was in second place with about 29%, which was significantly higher than Spain and Italy (about 17 and 19% respectively). On the other hand, for leisure and education category, Turkey also was the top-ranked at just 4.35%, which was barely twofold compared to the least one, Spain, at nearly 2%.
The percentage for clothing and footwear category varied between around 5.40% in Sweden and 9% in Italy. The outlays for these items in the remaining nations averaged about 6.5%.
