The line graph illustrates the percentage of people aged 65 and more from 1940 to 2040 in three countries.
Overall, there is a similar trend of increasing in the proportion of elderly people in three countries.
In 1940, the figures for the people aged 65 or over in the USA was approximately 9%, compared to 7% of Swedish people and 5% of Japanese people. In the following 60 years, Sweden and the USA saw a steady growth of elderly people, hitting around at 15% in 2000. In stark contrast, just under 5% was responsible for Japan.
In the future, Japan is expected to see the most considerable increase in the proportion of elderly people, reaching at about 27% in 2040, after a jump at around 15% between 2030 and 2040. Meanwhile, Sweden and the USA will remain a gradual rise in the percentage of the old people, 25% will belong to Sweden and just below 25% will come from the USA.
