Tardily synonym for late?

Hi teachers,
Would 'tardily' be an appropriate synonym for 'late' in the following sentence?
A: Remember, tomorrow will be Friday and we have to work, so I don't want to get home too late, okay?

Thanks in advance.

I have no intention to substitute that word for the original one at all. It is just to explain the meaning to the students. That synonym has a latin-derived word, so it is easier for the students to understand it. I just have to be sure that I'm not teaching something which is odd, not logical or very unnatural.

No. This "too late" doesn't mean "past the time required to attend something" as in "we were too late to get in to see the play" and even if it did "tardily" is a very strange word. "

It means "at a very advanced hour of the evening."

"tardily" is not a very common word and it would not be usual to use it in that sentence.

Also, "Remember, tomorrow's Friday" would be more usual.

Same with past (Remember, yesterday's Friday)? Thank you.

No, that would have to be "yesterday was Friday".

Hi GPY,
Thanks for your reply too. I was trying to use 'tardily' or 'tardy', just because in Spanish is 'tarde'; latin-derived word.

These were common in the 1950s, but not used much any more.

He was tardy for work.
She is always tardy for school.
She will be punished for her persistent tardiness.

I've never seen the adverb used (tardily).
