Tally vs count

Are there any differences between "I'm tallying the number of workers" and "I'm counting the number of workers"? Thanks in advance!

The main difference is that 'tally' is a very uncommon verb . I'm counting the number of workers? OK, but more common is simply I 'm counting the workers .

'tally' implies that you are recording the count in some way. "count" does not.
