One of my non-native English speaking friends made up some similar questions. I have written them down below.
(1) Have you ever read any books that talk about unsolved crimes?
(2) Have you ever read any books that have talked about unsolved crimes?
(3) Have you read any books that talk about unsolved crimes?
(4) Have you read any books that have talked about unsolved crimes?
Most of my non-native English speaking friends think these questions can be answered, as shown below.
(A) I have read books that have talked about unsolved crimes. (good for all the questions above)
(B) I have read books that talk about unsolved crimes. (good for all the questions above)
I don't agree with my friends. I think (1) is wrong. I would use (A) to answer (2) and (4) and (B) to answer (3).
