"Train wreck" has become a slang term for any disaster. You can say, "Boy, how about that presentation to the client this morning? What a total freaking train wreck!" but you wouldn't say, "I knew the presentation wasn't going to go well, but I didn't expect it to be an airplane crash," or "If Jim lets one more sales meeting turn into a chemical spill, he's going to get fired."
