does the verb Put take ING ?
can i say : i'm putting something on the table

Yeah, good point. (In colloquial English, "cannot" may have to be relaxed in one or two cases.)

Technically, it's that verbs used with stative meaning can't be in the continuous, but that gets pretty confusing for learners of English, so your explanation
