Taking a latent swipe

Besides taking a latent swipe that Salman over his remarks that the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks were over hyped due to the fact that the elite were targeted, the editorial said that it was good that the actor was not adamant like Shah Rukh Khan.

Please explain to me the highlighted parts.

"latent" seems to be the wrong word. The author may mean "taking a sly/subtle swipe" or something of that nature. Overall, I do not have great confidence in this sentence.

  • The first "that" should be "at", "over hyped" should be hyphenated or one word, and it seems likely that "besides" should be "despite".
