'take this opportunity to do'

1) You'll have the opportunity to ask any questions at the end.

2) I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues for their support.

I have learned that in 'a / the opportunity to do', to do functions as an adjective phrase and modifies a /the opportunity behind and I have no problem understanding #1 but it is somewhat awkward to say to thank...modifies this opportunity in my language or in English, do you say that 'to thank my colleagues..' modifies this opportunity as an adjective phrase like the #1?

What do you native English speakers think? Thank you so much as usual in advance!
