Take The Shape

Suppose I were frying a steak on super-high heat, and the center of the steak bulged:

"The steak took the shape of a bowl."
"The steak took on the shape of a bowl."

Could both be correct and mean the same thing?

A bowl shape is concave
A bulge is convex.
Therefore, your sentences do not match your description. (And I've never seen a steak do that. Are you cooking beef?)
